Local gastronomy

Greedy holidays ?...

… Port-Vendres knows how to wake your senses.

This exceptional land offers tasty ground and sea products, southern and Mediterranean flavours. You’ll find these products at the fish shops, at the Saturday market, in our wine cellars or at our craftsmen’s and in the restaurants of Port-Vendres…

Sea products

The local fishing on the rocky seabed provides fish of excellent quality. Local fishing is plentiful and varied   (you’ll find the fish at the auction hall or in the fish shops). Sardine is the dominating sort. Though, the local fishing is varied, and often the fishermen bring back shells, shellfishes and other main Mediterranean products (Tuna, Sea perch).
Normally the trawlers arrive around 3 or 4:00 pm and the auction sale begins at 4:30 pm. You can also discover this local fishing in the port. The small-scale boats sell their fishing at the angle of the quai Forgas and du quai Joly, in the mornings between 8:00 and 10:00 pm.
In Port-Vendres, you can enjoy the “fishing of the day” and rediscover the subtle taste of à la planxa grilled fish or treat yourself to a beautiful seafood platter.

A wine land

Delimited by the sea, the Roussillon plain, the Pyrenees and Spain, the famous Banyuls and Collioure vineyards group together on the territory of the four districts of the Côte Vermeille (Banyuls, Cerbère, Collioure and Port-Vendres). These mountainous terrace vineyards, persistently cultivated by hand, produce the famous Banyuls natural aperitif wine, that reaches its maturity after a long ageing process in oak barrels. This land also produces and excellent full-bodied and heady appellation controlée wine (red, white, rosé), the Collioure.

During your stay at Port-Vendres, don’t forget to visit the wine cellars and to taste these exceptional wines…
